Children brought their favourite characters to life to celebrate World Book Day.

Youngsters at schools and play groups dressed up in costumes to mark the day, which is celebrated across the country to encourage a love of books.

Kayleigh Skeldon, manager at Little Scallywags Day Nursery, said: “We believe in the importance of reading stories to children of all ages.

"At Little Scallywags all staff focus on the impact of reading stories to children from a young age and planning was focused around language and communication all week.

"The children had so much fun reading stories, singing rhymes and acting out roles of their favourite character.”
