Swimmers of all shapes and sizes, ages and abilities are invited to take part in another exciting swimathon.

The Macclesfield and District Lions Club is organising its 29th Annual charity event for Sunday, November 15.

Over the years the event has raised more than £135,000, with the main recipients being BBC Children in Need, Middlewood Riding for the Disabled and Lions charitable causes.

It will be held at Macclesfield Leisure Centre, with each team of six swimming two lengths of the pool in a relay.

Teams will compete for the NatWest Bank Cup by seeing who can swim the most laps in 45 minutes in different categories.

And the Lions Trophy goes to the team that raises the most sponsorship money.

Heather Cann, who swims in the Lions Ladies Team, is a guide leader and organises a team from Bollington Girl Guides.

She said: “The girls have a great time and the parents urge them along from the side.

“A lot of splashing and laughing goes on but we ultimately raise funds for good causes.”
