A charity gig featuring the singer from Macclesfield rock band The Virginmarys is asking for donations of tinned food as an entry fee.

Ally Dickaty will be performing solo acoustic at the King Edward Street Chapel on Wednesday, September 21 for Silklife Foodbank.

But instead of buying tickets or paying cash on the door, Ally is asking for a minimum of £5 worth of tinned food per person.

The gig has been called People Help The People and aimed to bolster the stocks of the local charity.

Ally announced the gig on September 8 through his band’s Facebook page and it sold out in minutes.

However, he is encouraging all those who didn’t get tickets to still consider donating to Silklife.

Ally said: “The food bank is something the band and King Edward Street Chapel feel passionate about and just want to do a little to help anyone in the community struggling for whatever reason.

“I put the idea forward to the King Edward Street Chapel as I thought it would be an incredible space to hold the event and they are a lovely community in themselves.

“I also thought it would be a great way of bringing people together for the cause and getting involved more than donating money.”

Ally said he was blown away by the response.

“I announced on our bands Facebook page just before 6pm and it sold out within 30 minutes. Amazing.

“I’ve sent the successful ticket winners a list of what the Foodbank is in need of. They then give their name over on the night along with the bag of shopping and the food is gathered like a Harvest Festival.”

Silklife Foodbank was established by Silklife Church in 2010 in response to Macclesfield’s growing need for on-the-spot emergency food boxes.

The Virginmarys also features Danny Dolan on drums and Matt Rose on bass. They have had two albums King of Conflict in 2013 and the recently released Divides.
