Civic leaders have pledged to do what they can help the dozens of workers left without job because of the disaster.

Around 50 employees of Wood Treatment Ltd are being urged to contact Cheshire East Council for advice and support.

Concerns have also been raised about other companies in the vicinity of the explosion and fire have been affected.

The council has set up a drop-in facility at Bosley St Mary’s Primary School.

Officers with specialist employment training will be on hand to discuss housing, employment and benefits.

In addition, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has pledged to provide advice.

In the meantime the council has been approached by two local firms offering employment opportunities.

It is also understood The Treacle Tap pub in Macclesfield is making arrangements to take on extra staff.

The council says it is “working hard” to identify job opportunities for 50 people who worked at the mill.

Leader of Cheshire East Council, Coun Michael Jones, said: “We have 50 local people whose jobs have been lost as a result of the destruction of this factory.

“I will ensure that we have staff available to offer whatever help, guidance and support is required.”

Sam Alston, chairman of Bosley Parish Council, expressed concern for other businesses in the area.

He said: “I have to wonder if the mill will ever be rebuilt. It’s too early to tell, but that site, which has been a place for jobs for many, many years, is now gone. Wood Treatment are a big employer for the area.

“There’s also the issue of the other businesses nearby. What will happen to them? We need to do as much as possible to help everyone affected.”

Macclesfield MP David Rutley encourage local businesses to do their bit.

He said: “We must think about the 50 workers who are without jobs. I have had a conversation with Bronwyn Riley at the Treacle Tap and she’s committed to providing some work for those who need it. I hope others do the same.”

Anyone who needs help and advice can visit the drop-in centre at the Bosley St Mary’s Primary School, Leek Road.

The council has also set up an emergency hotline for help and support on 0300 123 5034.
