Named after Macclesfield’s silk ribbon makers, The Gimp Twister is a bar and bolt hole for music lovers which runs all weekend. The Gimp Twister opens on Friday evening with DJ and easy tunes. On Saturday it hosts acts including Louis Barabbas and Hot Vestry, and on Sunday there’s New Order’s Stephen Morris and Hope & Social on the bill.

Costumed Maxonians take to the streets and ten thousand stars shine bright as the vibrant carnival winds through the town centre. Take part in The Astronomer’s Story (ticketed) an immersive theatrical adventure in Christ Church and visit a most unusual Observatory (FREE) on the lawns (Saturday 18 and Sunday 19). A beautiful moon appears on rooftops. Each night, before dusk falls, it will mysteriously move to a new location. BEDWYR WILLIAMS: Flexure

This short film observes Macclesfield, its inhabitants and a yoga teacher, whilst exploring ideas about space, travel and our local/universal lives. Having represented Wales at the 2013 Venice Biennale, Williams is shortlisted for the Artes Mundi Prize. Flexure forms part of his solo exhibition at the Barbican Curve Gallery, London in September.

LILIANE LIJN: Moonmeme, 1992- ongoing

In real-time computer simulation Moonmeme, Liliane Lijn writes the word ‘SHE’ across the moon in letters large enough to be seen from earth,usingthe movements of moon, earth and sun during a lunar month to demonstrate the interlocking of opposites. Internationally acclaimed Lijn explores language, mythology and the

relationship between light and matter.

HONDARTZA FRAGA: From Dark Matter to White Noise

Inspired by Cheshire’s iconic Lovell Telescope and in association with Jodrell Bank, Fraga explores the telescope’s history, relationship with its surroundings, and the remote places it explores. From Dark Matter to White Noise is a new commission of drawing and video work from the Leeds-based artist who has exhibited nationally and internationally.

HANNAH IMLACH: Canopy Lens

A honeycomb of glass-like components is suspended in branches, magnifying and blurring the leaves above and views beyond. Canopy Lens plays with dappled light, casting hexagonal shadows onto the trunks and ground below. Scottish artist Hannah Imlach researches our relationship with the environment through sculpture, and is currently Artist-in-Residence at Heriot-Watt University.

SIMON WOOLHAM: The Macc Walks: Taking-Back-Space (Janet, Laura and Pete)
