A former soldier is encouraging others to get down to the Moss Rose in support of a special Armed Forces Day.

Macclesfield Town FC are offering free entry to serving and former members of the armed forces to watch the Vanarama National Premier League game against Aldershot tomorrow (Saturday) at 3pm.

Among those planning to cheer on the Silkmen is Sean Lucey, 43, a former soldier who served with the Royal Artillery for 22 years.

Sean, of Stapleton road, Macclesfield, said: “I would encourage the general public and hopefully some old and bold military to turn up and show support for Macc town and what they are doing.

“I will be attending in blazer and medals. I hope we can get a few more up there to show support.”

Special guest at the event are the family of murdered soldier Lee Rigby, whose son Jack, five, will be mascot.
