Officers have uncovered a meat cleaver in the hunt for an armed robber in Macclesfield.

A manhunt was launched to catch a vicious thug after an an armed robbery at a Bookmakers in Broken Cross, Macclesfield.

The masked man burst into Coral bookmakers at Broken Cross on Sunday, March 9, at around 11.15am.

He threatened staff and customers with the weapon before leaping over the 5ft counter.

The robber then grabbed cash from the tills before running off towards Pexhill Road.

As part of the investigation police have uncovered a 30cm long meat cleaver, which they say could have been used in the incident.

The weapon was found in bushes on the Bollinbarn estate in Macclesfield, and has the name ‘Prima′ embossed on the blade.

Officers are appealing to anyone who has any information regarding the meat cleaver or where it has come from to get in touch.

DC Alan Davies said: "Our enquiries are continuing and we are specifically appealing to anyone who has any information about the meat cleaver to get in touch.

"Thankfully no one in the bookmakers was injured during the incident but staff were left shaken by their ordeal. We are committed to tackling this type of crime and would urge anyone who has any information, which might assist with our enquiries, to come forward."

The man is described as white, around 5ft 5 to 5ft 7ins tall with a slim build. He had a local accent and was wearing dark clothing with his face covered by a balaclava or something similar.
