A horse with a condition which means she can nod off unexpectedly had to be rescued after falling into a ditch full of mud.
An animal rescue team from Bollington went to the aid of 27-year-old Molly about 9.30pm on Wednesday (December 14) after she got into difficulties in a field.
Molly suffers from narcolepsy which means she can fall asleep unexpectedly.
She fell three feet into a ditch, landing in around four feet of soft mud and was unable to get out.
A vet attended the incident in Chester to sedate the horse allowing the crew to attach specialist equipment to help pull her out while the farmer used a digger to create a ramp in the bank making it easier for her to walk free.
Rescue teams guided Molly out and after lying down for about 10 minutes to gather her strength she was able to get back up on her hooves.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We have spoken to Molly’s owner today who has assured us she is safe and well after her muddy ordeal.”
