BRITAIN had a Macclesfield representative at this year’s World Water-Skiing Championships - Will Morrison.

Will competed on the world stage for the first time at the end of last year, pitting his wits against the best water-skiers on the planet.

The 21-year-old travelled to Santiago, Chile as part of a four-strong team aiming for global glory.

Competitors performed in the slalom, trick and jump disciplines and Morrison jumped 47m, as well as scoring 5,180 points from his two 20-second passes in the trick event, unfortunately taking a fall on his penultimate flip.

Although he narrowly missed out on a place in the final 12, the experience will stand him in good stead as he aims for future success.

His team-mates, Stephen Critchley and slalom specialist Nicole Arthur were also outside the cut-off for the final, but George Mayling flew the flag for Britain, finishing in ninth place.

Morrison (pictured right) took up water-skiing as a 12-year-old and has represented Great Britain in the European Championships in Germany. He now has his sights firmly fixed on the next World event, which will be held in Peru in 2009.

"I think I did pretty well really, I found out I was in the team of four just before Christmas and didn’t have that much time for training, apart from a week in Florida just before the championships."

Next on his globe-trotting agenda is a training period in America, followed by excursions to Spain and London, where he will also do some coaching.

Will thanked his sponsors Goofy-foot Clothing, Henshaw’s Waste, Howden’s Joinery and East Cheshire Glass for their invaluable support.
