Macclesfield 8
Wrexham 0

MACCLESFIELD Ladies' collective team work overwhelmed Wrexham's individual efforts in an emphatic victory at Tytherington High School.

The home side raced into a three-goal lead after Claire Barlow, Vicky Jackson and Rachel Addison all converted well-executed short corner routines.

Wrexham tried valiantly to break through the Macc defence, but to no avail and Debbie O'Connor added a fourth before half-time when she turned in Jackson's accurate cross.

Macclesfield proceeded to dominate the game and further goals were added by Annika Hall, Jackson, O'Connor and Barlow. Two-goal hero Jackson picked up the man-of-the-match award while the splendid Ali Cundiff was voted players' player of the game.

Poynton enjoyed a superb return to National League hockey on Saturday as they beat high-flying Trojans 1-0 - and then lifted the Cheshire Cup for a sixth successive time just 24 hours later.

The first half was a tight affair against Trojans but much-improved Poynton created the best chances. Cath Linaker hit the post and Sinead McCarthy went close on two occasions.

The London Road side opened the scoring at the start of the second half when Nicola White finished off a flowing move involving Kayleigh Humphries, Linaker and Jane Ambler.

On Sunday, the ladies, who travel to Sutton Coldfield for their next league encounter on February 11, won the Cheshire Cup for an impressive sixth year running when they defeated Chester 4-0.
