CRICKET: A sequence of five wins and three draws from their last eight games has taken Urmston into second place in Murray Smith division one.

Their latest victory came at home to Birkenhead Park after they had posted a modest 136 (Ian Grindley 45, Gareth Evans 4-15).

Park's batting collapsed to 83 against the pace of Garry Saunders (5-19) and Kurt Edginton (3-14).

Oxton shrugged off a three-points slow over rate penalty with a handsome seven-wicket win at Congleton after chasing 184-7 (Rob Porter 64). Oxton claimed 185-3 (Malcolm Doggart 52).

Toft lost their second game in a row through poor batting at home to Brooklands, and were all out for 100 (David Blackburn 31, Mark Law 5-33).

Brooklands, who shoot up to seventh place, had totalled 188-8 (Rob Edwards 57, Matthew Cornes 4-50).

Warrington edged into the top half with a handsome six-wicket win at Upton, who they dismissed for 127 (Steve Hayden 5-43, Neil Thompson 4-31).

The consistent Malcolm Agar claimed another half-century in Wartrington's reply.

Bapa Mukherjee was man of the match in Widnes' winning draw against Alsager.

He contributed 41 to his side's 202-4, then claimed 4-45 as Alsager played out their seventh draw at 145-8 (Paul Pickford 50).

Stockport Georgians came near their first win at home to Heaton Mersey after running up 219-8. Mersey got to 178-8.
