Trade Mark Collections East Cheshire League

THIS weekend saw the more unseemly side of football as SIX players received their marching orders in eight matches in the East Cheshire League.

In the League Cup first round clash at Woodford Rec, Poynton Kingfisher and Lindow both ended the game with ten men as an ill-tempered contest threatened to boil over. First-half goals from Tommy Gill and a penalty from Steve Bennett sent Lindow into the next round, though Ian Jefferson pulled one back.

Mary Dendy also had a player dismissed as they tumbled to a 6-0 defeat against Club AZ in the second round. Jake McGarry smashed five and Danny Beighton added a sixth as AZ cruised into the quarter-finals.

In the Combined League, a Paul O'Grady hat-trick helped Alderley Saint Phillips beat bottom side Poynton Nomads B 5-3 at Jim Evison Fields. Saints' 18-year-old debutant James Parrott capped a man-of-the-match display with a fine double, while Dan Hunter, Dave Jarvis and Alan Hay netted for Nomads.

Bollington Athletic and Boarhound shared the points in a 2-2 draw at Bollington Cross. Dave Clowes headed the home side into the lead on 12 minutes only for Gaz Hughes to equaliser three minutes later. A spectacular Greg Brown strike restored Bolly's advantage, but Stuart Robinson's second-half strike ensured the visitors left with a point.

Royal Oak took the honours in the top-of-the-table clash against Offerton Villa at Woodford Rec as they ran out 4-2 winners. Luke Wild (2), James Baskerville and Tim Hammond were on the scoresheet for the Oak, while Nick Cheetham and Paul Cox replied.

The wheels seem to have fallen off Poynton Nomads A's charge up the table as they went down 2-0 at home to Old Alts Vets. Tony Dawson and Ian Hunt were on target.

In the First Division, a Matt Harwood strike wasn't enough to save Juno United who went down 2-1 at home to Nelson. The prolific Kallum Lee and Phil Adshead were the scorers. Phoenix's clash with Poynton FC was called to a premature halt by the referee after three players saw red. Poynton were leading 2-1 through Simon Kaklugin and Lee Stubbs.
