MACCLESFIELD'S Under-10 Tigers team went to the Wilmslow festival and were pitted against tough group rivals, competing against the likes of previous winners Greystones College from Ireland.

They played some good rugby along the way, but missed out on qualifying from the group stages.

Macclesfield 3-1 Stockport

The Tigers opened the scoring when the forwards managed to smuggle the ball back at a ruck. Scrum-half Matt Robertson made some ground then fed the ball down the line to Alex Sneesby, who scored in the corner.

The second came in similar fashion, after James Stott pounced on a Stockport knock-on, the ball came out to the left wing and Sneesby outflanked the defence. The final score came from the forwards recycling the ball out to Joe Hale. He offloaded to Will Gregory, who dived over to score.

Macclesfield 4-0 Llandudno

The Tigers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard against Llandudno. Sneesby was held up just short of the line, but Chris Taylor was in support to pick up and score.

From a maul five metres out, Taylor scored his second. The backs then got in on the act, Gregory sidestepping to score in the corner. Quick recycling from a lineout saw Matt Robertson outpace the defence for the fourth.

Macclesfield 0-1 Greystones

This was a fiercely fought battle against a much larger team. Greystones managed to score with the last play of the ball in the dying seconds of the second half and the relieved Irish team notched a close victory.

Macclesfield 1-1 Altrincham Kersal

Kersal scored first as the Tigers started slowly. The second half saw prolonged pressure on the Kersal line, which eventually resulted in the score. After a succession of scrums near the Kersal line, the forwards' possession led to Gregory stretching an arm over the line to score.

  • THE Under-11s drew their group games with Mold and Wilmslow and reached the semi-finals on the toss of a coin, losing 1-0 to Crewe and Nantwich.
