A BRILLIANT double from Carl Wagstaffe helped Poynton Reserves cause an upset and dump the first team out of the Macclesfield and District Saturday Cup.

The midfield general struck twice after the break as the second string out-fought and out-played their more illustrious London Road club-mates on a heavy pitch at the Sports Club.

Gaz Collins capitalised on a poor clearance to hand the Reserves an early lead, before Wagstaffe doubled their advantage with a fine header from Paul Wharton's cross.

The veteran midfielder then wrapped up the contest when he grabbed his second of the afternoon to avenge last season's cup exit at the hands of the first team - and spark wild scenes of celebration for one half of Poynton.

There was no such shock in Club AZ's clash with Mary Denby, the Mid-Cheshire League side running out 5-2 winners. Andrew Tunnicliffe (2), Rick Mottershead, Jarrod Moss and Hugh Wheetan were on target for the home side.

Andy Foote, Simon Gibbons and Carl Barlow netted in Boarhound's (Sat) 3-0 victory against Old Alts Vets, while Congleton Vale ensured their progress at the expense of Wilmslow Albion. Wilmslow led 3-2 with minutes to go, but Vale equalised and sent the game into extra time, where they eventually ran out 4-3 winners.
