PRE-SEASON training is now in full swing at Priory Park as Macclesfield RUFC prepare for life in National League Three (North).

More than 30 players turned out for the first session following what seems like a brief summer break, and included in that group were a number of new faces.

Macc's first team captain, Iain Taylor, said: "We had a really good turn out for a first training stint, especially considering it's holiday time.

"We had a number of potential new signings join us, including a couple of props, a back row, a second row and a scrum-half. We were all put through our paces by fitness coach Adrian Ord, who is an experienced Stockport Harrier. The lads were really feeling the pain after we'd finished."

The club's league campaign gets under way on September 13 with a trip to Longton.

Meanwhile, three pre-season friendly fixtures have been arranged. Taylor's side will host Sale Jets on August 19, then travel to Vale of Lune on August 23, before returning home to welcome Orrell on August 30.

That friendly fixture list will probably increase during the next few weeks.
