IT was business as usual in the East Cheshire League after the Christmas break with Royal Oak disposing of bottom-club Poynton FC 5 -2 at Woodford Rec.

Two goals from Tim Hammond and a third from Jonny Mercer had put Oak 3-0 up at the interval, but Chris Oake pulled one back early in the second half. However, further strikes from Luke Wild and Liam Hadfield put the game beyond them, though Ben Aimson did manage to grab a second for the hosts before the final whistle.

A 2-0 victory against Alderley St Phillips saw Club AZ climb four places up to third, Jake McGarry scoring twice from the spot either side of half-time.

A remarkable game saw Poynton Nomads A come from 2-0 down in the second half to beat Boarhound 7-2. Centre-half Simon McMahon hit a hat-trick including two penalties, while Mark Faulkner and man-of-the-match James Robertson both claimed two apiece.

Offerton Villa moved into second with a 3-2 victory away to local rivals Phoenix. Villa twice came from behind after Mike Murphy had put the home side in the lead and the game looked to be heading for a draw until Nick Cheetham rose to head home his 10th goal of the season with five minutes left to seal the points for Villa. Villa's other goals came from Steven Healey and a Danny Jenkins penalty.

Despite hitting his fifth goal in five games for Poynton Nomads B, Mark Toomey's strike wasn't enough to earn them a point as they went down 5-2 to Old Alts thanks to four-goal Kevin Austin and Dave Holden. Tom Edbrooke added Nomads' second.

Mary Dendy secured their fourth win of the campaign thanks to the League's top-scorer Matty Morris who grabbed all four taking his tally to 20 for the season. Wayne Lauder replied with two for a disappointing Kingfisher side.

All the action came after the break as Bollington Athletic woke from their first-half slumber to beat Nelson 4-1. Dave Clowes and substitute Danny Quigley grabbing two a piece for Athletic and Shaun Summers drilling home for Nelson. The win now takes Bolly up to sixth.
