Harlbro Cup Second Round
Macclesfield 3rds 75
Sedgley Park 3rds 5

MACCLESFIELD Third Team ran in 13 tries to blitz Sedgley Park and take their place in the third round of the Harlbro Cup.

Blues captain Martin Rosser was more than a little pleased with the performance of his side, which was built on a rock-solid scrum with pillars Matt Harding and Andy Leigh, never giving an inch

Sedgley never failed to keep fighting, but with Big John Plant and flanker Craig Phillips making yards at every phase, it was clear there was only going to be one winner on the day.

With such a good platform, it was little wonder that the backs had a field day.

Exciting prospect Joe Walker, gave exemplary service to fly-half Toni Amos, making a welcome return to rugby after several years away from the game.

Scores came at regular intervals and of the 13 tries scored, only one was by the forwards (Watts).

The remainder were shared amongst the backs with quick-silver full-back Dave Phillips and the mercurial Mark Marshall both nabbing hat-tricks and youngsters Chesher and Busch, and the mature Rob Oliver claiming a brace each.

  • MACCLESFIELD Vets recorded their biggest winning margin over local rivals Wilmslow in living memory, running in six tries in a 34-0 victory.

The Blues took control from the first whistle, with Branch, Glover, Spendlove, Adams, Macey and Davies running in tries and two conversions from the reliable boot of Keeling.

The Vets came off the field proud of a fine all-round display, which included great performances from Tim Adams, Rupert Dixon and Richard Glover

  • DESPITE a late kick-off, Macclesfield's under-16s coasted to a 36-0 victory in an action-packed trip to Northwich.

Tries came from Stephen Cole (2), captain James Mair (2) and Billy Robinson, with a magnificent defensive display towards the end of the game to maintain the clean sheet.

Jake Cooper also put in a superb show in his first game for the club.
