CLUB AZ retained the Macclesfield and District FA Saturday Cup with a 3-0 win over Congleton Vale.

AZ won the final last year, beating the same opponents and retained their trophy with first-half goals from Craig Scott, Johnny Morris and Martin Firth.

They took an early lead in the final, played at the Moss Rose, when Scott pounced on a loose ball and smashed it home.

Morris added the second and, shortly before the interval, referee Ray Rigby awarded a penalty, which Firth converted.

Vale tried to mount a second-half comeback but defenders Andrew Forbes and Simon Carlsberg and goalkeeper Matt Towns held firm for AZ to collect the trophy and their medals from FA president Barrie McQuinn.

  • THE FA Sunday Cup saw holders Drum and Monkey face Spinners Arms.

Sean Gill and Gary Mathers netted in the first half for the Bollington side, with Duncan Warrender replying for Drum and Monkey.

A Spinners penalty in the second half was converted by Tom Gill and Drum looked to be a beaten side.

However, Warrender's second and a late goal from Jamie Moyninan sent the final into extra time.

After the Wilmslow side were reduced to ten men, strikes by Harry Wheetman and Sean Gill completed a 5-3 victory for Spinners, who won the cup back from their opponents, having been victorious two years ago.

Steve Watt of sponsors Gradus Ltd presented the cup and players' medals.

  • IN THE Sunday League Cup, Pack Horse took on Ridgegate in a highly entertaining final.

Lee McIntyre gave Pack the lead on 15 minutes and John Campbell added a second from the penalty spot.

Will Beighton gave Ridgegate hope will a goal from close range eight minutes before the break.

Pack's captain Ward then scored the vital goal, heading home a corner.

Although Beighton nabbed a second and was inches away from a hat-trick, Pack Horse, who had a man sent off, held on to collect the cup.

Pack Horse add the trophy to their Cookson's Premier Division title.
