The Silkmen currently find themselves 12th in the National League table after going seven matches without a win, 11 points off the play-off spots with 10 games remaining.

While any hopes of promotion appear to be slim, Turnbull is adamant that his side are still capable of turning things around.

“The boys still want the play-offs and I promise you that we are still going for them,” he said.

“There were a few games where we took our foot off the gas but we’re working hard on the pitch and getting back to where we were.

“We’re trying to get the ball down and play like we were at the start of the season as that’s what brought us success.”

Macc will now turn their attention to this weekend when they host in-form Lincoln City at the Moss Rose.

Lincoln have won four of their last five matches, leaving them in eighth place, five points off the play-offs. In contrast, the Silkmen have only won one league game in 2016, the 1-0 win over Tranmere on January 2, but Turnbull believes his side are more than capable of a victory on Saturday.

“Lincoln are a good side and are on a great run but we’ll be aiming to get those three points,” he said.

“We will carry on working hard like we have been doing as we need to stop their run and start our own run.”

Macclesfield head into that match with Lincoln on the back of a 0-0 draw at the Moss Lane against local rivals Altrincham last Saturday.

It means Turnbull’s side have taken four points from Altrincham this season, but he had hoped to come away with the win.

“I suppose when you’re away from home you will take the point but we were going for all three,” he said.

“The pitch was a bit heavy so it became a long ball game but we worked hard and I think that showed in the second half. We kept fighting and a few hard challenges went in so hopefully we can keep performing.”

Turnbull has been a key part of the Macclesfield side this season, featuring in 29 of his side’s 36 games so far.

The 27-year-old joined Macc three years ago, having had previous spells at Stockport County and Northampton Town.

He will be going up against a former side when they host Lincoln this weekend, as he also had a loan spell with the club in 2013.

Turnbull played in Macclesfield’s reverse fixture against Lincoln earlier this season, with the Silkmen suffering a 5-3 defeat.
