BROTHERS Will and George Laughton made waves this month when they made their international rowing debuts on consecutive weekends.

And the former King's School pupils had plenty to celebrate after 17-year-old Will captured a silver medal and George, 18, claimed bronze.

Younger sibling Will set the standard for the Lower Withington brothers when he helped Great Britain finish second at the Munich International Junior Regatta.

The Sir John Deane's sixth form student won all the GB junior sculling assessments through the autumn and spring and was selected to represent his country at the German tournament in both a quad and double scull.

George, who like Will is a member of Northwich Rowing Club, came third the following weekend in a GB under-23 eight at Essen International Regatta, narrowly losing out to the two national German crews.

It is the latest in a long line of successes for the Laughton lads. Both boys won gold at the National Rowing Championships in consecutive years: George in 2003 and Will in 2004.

And while the brothers have always competed in different age groups - and not against each other up - from next year they will be in the same category and they have not ruled out the possibility of rowing together.

"They are both incredibly competitive and it should make for some interesting meal times," said proud mum Rosemary. "But they are very proud of each other and to think they have both represented their country for the first time in the space of a week is quite amazing."
