SWIMMING: The Satellite club finished the season with some fine performances in the ASA National Senior and Age Group Championships.

Ten swimmers made the journey to Crystal Palace Sports Centre for the Senior Championships and came away with a silver and bronze medal.

Individual success went to Olympian Steven Mellor in the Mens 400m freestyle. Steven, who qualified in sixth position for the final, took the race out and led for six out of the eight lengths in the final.

Steven was caught by the fastest qualifier in lane four but he was rewarded for his efforts with the silver medal.

In the shorter 200m freestyle he misjudged his pacing and in a blanket finish he was pushed into fourth place - half a second covering the first five swimmers.

The 17/18yrs boys team of James Buckle, Jordan Hewitt, Daniel Goodwin and Lee Forster all produced personal best times in their relay and were delighted when they realised they had won the bronze medal.

James Buckle recorded personal best times in his two individual events - 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke - to finish in the top ten in his age group, and Lee Forster put in solid performances in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle in the same age group.

Georgina Price was first reserve for the semi-final of the ladies 50m breaststroke.

Georgina also qualified for the 100m and 200m breaststroke in which she had success in the European Masters just a few weeks ago.

Vicki Parker recorded her fastest time ever, despite a poor finish in the girls 17/18yrs 50m butterfly, which moved her up into the top ten in the rankings.

The ladies team of Emma Flanagan, Georgina Price, Joanne Goode and Jenna Goode were pleased with their sixth place in the ladies 4x100m medley team.

This matched the mens team of Steven Mellor, Lee Forster, Peter Anderson and James Buckle in the mens 4x100m freestyle, which had taken place earlier in the meet.

Following on from the seniors the age groupers travelled to Sheffield for their championships.

15-years-old Emma Flanagan who has been showing good form all season continued to do so and made the finals of the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke - all three in personal best times.

Emma's highest placing was in the 100m event in which she finished fifth just 2/10ths of a second outside a place on the podium.

In the other two events she finished a very creditable seventh. Emma also qualified for the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Fourteen-year-old Joe Devlin produced four personal best times out of the five events he qualified for.

In the 50m and 100m freestyle events he finished in the top eight in the country after smashing his previous best times. Joe also recorded pbs in the 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle events.

Thirteen-year-old Andrew John qualified for six events - 50m free, 50m back, 200m IM and his specialist events 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly, in which he moved into the top 15 in his age group in the country in all three.

Fourteen-year-old Anthony Harrison was a little disappointed with his result in the boys 200m breaststroke when he was just outside his best but Philip Hallam and Claire Collinge, both 14 year olds, who qualified for the `Nationals' for the first time, controlled their nerves and recorded good times.

Despite the 13/14 years boys team of Joe Devlin, Robert Barker, Anthony Harrison and Philip Hallam recording a two and a half second personal best they had to be content with second reserve for the final of the freestyle event.

The club now takes a break for the summer holidays and returns to training at the beginning of September.
