Sparky thinks over Macc move

SOCCER: Mark Hughes has not responded to Macclesfield Town's offer of a contract - but has said he is keeping his options open.

The Silkmen were hoping to offer the 38-year-old striker a pay-as-you-play contract in a bid to increase the gates at the Moss Rose.

Hughes said he was keen to continue his playing career after being released by Blackburn last month.

Macclesfield manager David Moss said: "We are in a tight financial situation at the moment, but with somebody such as Mark, there would be ways of getting round that.

"We could pay him according to the size of the gate, or get sponsorship for him."

Hughes has said that he is keeping his options open, and is also reportedly attracting interest from his hometown club Wrexham.

He told the Daily Post newspaper: "I've not made any plans about my future just yet.

"I've had a few inquiries, with people expressing their interest.

"But it's quiet at the moment with so many people away on holiday and I would imagine that I'll make a decision within the next three to four weeks.

"I've got a few things to consider and the biggest one is whether I continue to play.

"Once I make that decision, then I'll look at what's on the table but I haven't made the decision one way or the other yet.

"I've got a lot of other things to take into consideration and it's a big decision and I have to make sure it's the right one."
