MACCLESFIELD Golf Club President Adrian Lamb could not have chosen worse weather for the afternoon players on his President's Day last week.

With strong winds and driving rain, the morning players certainly had the best of the conditions, which was reflected in the scores.

It took a four hole play-off to finally decide the winner and it was Gavin Owen who came out on top by the narrowest of margins.

The unlucky runner-up was Dave Towne, with Alan Corbishley in third place.

Best golfer of the day was Chris Massey who said during his acceptance speech they he owed a lot to his playing partners for pulling him through.

The best over 18 was Eddy Fisher and Ray Sheldon came out on top as the best past captain.

The President thanked everyone for attending and Captain Jack Buckley announced Jack D'arcy as the new captain for 2009.
