Poynton win by nine wickets

THE Recreation Ground played host to the third derby of the year between these sides on Saturday.

Like in the previous games this season, Poynton were decisive winners.

They were already celebrating victory by 4.30pm, a time when games would normally expect to reach the tea interval.

Things began to go wrong for Bollington from the very first ball, as skipper Rick Hough holed out to an Antonio Mayers full toss.

Poynton continued to enjoy good fortune, slicing through the top order to leave Bollington struggling on 29-6.

Ged McKernan's 17 boosted the home side, but generally they had no answers to the combination of Mayers' variations and Simon Turner's accuracy.

Mayers finished with five for 31 and Turner three for 16 from 14 overs.

Given the demons in the pitch, Paul Gould decided attack was the best form of defence, striking three fours in successive balls in the third over.

Shortly after, he pulled both opening bowlers for sixes as he continued his excellent display of timing.

After making 38 from 30 balls, Gould departed with the visitors just short of the victory target.

His opening partner Damian Stringer hit the winning runs after just 12 overs of the innings being bowled.

Bollington took just one point from the match, while Poynton collected 20.
