Harriers enjoy midweek success

ATHLETICS: MACCLESFIELD Harriers competed in a number of midweek races, some competitors turning out twice in three days.

The first event, 'The Gun Run,' took place from Swythamley Hall on Tuesday and is a 9km mixed terrain course.

Top Harrier home was Andy Lamont who came third behind British champion fell runners Simon Bailey and Lloyd Taggart.

Macclesfield Harrier Sarah Campbell was first lady.

The second event, the Forest 5, was organised as a charity event by the Harriers, and it raised over £250 for St Ann's Hospice.

Andy Lamont was first, and Sarah Campbell was first lady again to complete a double in three days.

To cap off a successful week, Digby Harris completed the Bob Graham Round fell running challenge in the Lake District.

This requires contenders to cover nearly 70 miles and ascend 42 peaks in 24 hours.

Harris completed his round in atrocious conditions with near zero visibility overnight in a time of 23 hours and 30 minutes.

He was supported by a large number of Harriers who navigated and carried food and clothing.

Harris is the third Harrier this year to complete the gruelling round, with Neil King and Dave Kilpatrick having completed rounds earlier in the summer.
