Local derby washed out

THE cricket season's half-way point on Saturday was marked by the first wash-out, with barely a ball being bowled.

The much anticipated derby clash between local rivals Bollington and Macclesfield was lost to the weather at the weekend.

Both sides have made a strong start and are separated by only a 30-point gap so all was to play for.

Macc, who were to host the game at their Victoria Road ground, were eager to prove they deserved their position at the top of the table after a loss the previous week to second placed Oxton.

However, the weather was to intervene and the match had to be abandoned.

Despite the washout, Macc retain their top spot of Cheshire County Cricket League Division One at the mid-season point.

A challenging second half is anticipated as the search for promotion back to the top flight of the Cheshire County League continues.

The Macc and Bolly return fixture is scheduled for the final day of the season.

Poynton's scheduled league game at Didsbury was also abandoned due to the rain, which forced the abandonment of the league's 18 games on Saturday.

Poynton currently lie seventh in Division One but are only 19 points off the promotion places, and face some big games in the coming weeks.

They visit Macclesfield next Sunday, the in-form Oxton on July 14 and Burnage in the Cheshire Cup on July 15.

• THE MELLER Braggins Cheshire League was also rained off, with the 18 games in Divisions One, Two and Three being abandoned. All teams received seven points.

• THE CHESHIRE Cricket Alliance saw just one game played, with Eastham beating Capenhurst by one wicket.
