Kings land ace deals

7/ 3/2007

KING'S School rugby players are set to benefit from two ground-breaking partnerships with major local sporting and commercial organisations.

Premiership champions Sale Sharks have selected King's as one of five Premiership schools to benefit from regular training, coaching and player development sessions.

Top estate agents Reeds Rains have agreed a shirt deal, believed to be worth more than £3,500, to sponsor all King's rugby shirts for next season.

Former Sale Sharks skipper Peter Anglesea explained why the North's top club had picked King's: "For many years, King's has produced some top quality players who have gone on to represent Sale with distinction, including Steve Smith, David Taylor, Graham Jennion and Josh Baxendell.

"Though we now have a worldwide scouting network, we must continue to develop our own home grown players and King's has both the playing and coaching talent to continue their fine tradition."

James Segal, a former King's pupil and now Macclesfield branch and area manager for Reeds Rains, said: "In order for King's to produce top quality rugby talent, their young men and women, parents and staff must give up a great deal of their time to support the game. Reeds Rains wants to offer its support as well."

Head of Rugby at King's, Andy Rice, said: "To be selected as one of Sale Sharks' Premiership Schools is testament not just to the current generation of King's players and coaches, but to the thousands of players and staff members who developed the sport at King's over the last 80 years."

He added: "We are grateful to Reeds Rains and welcome the active support of local business in schools' sport."
