Beth leads the way in derby win

THE Silkgirls enjoyed a fine victory over local rivals Stockport County, thanks to a hat-trick by Beth Clarke.

Macc started well in the opening minutes and took an early lead when a testing corner by Maddy Davidson was met by Clarke.

She hooked the ball into the net for a tremendous opening goal.

The Silks were on top but Stockport gradually got back into the game and equalised after 20 minutes.

With renewed confidence, the home side put the pressure on but the Macc defence coped well, with Sue Lea outstanding in thwarting County attacks.

The Silks nudged in front just before half-time with a fine drive by Clarke from the edge of the box.

The second half was very even and the visitors could have gone further ahead, but a powerful drive by Davidson was superbly saved by the Stockport keeper.

The result was put beyond doubt five minutes from time when Carly Smith put the ball through to Clarke who slotted it home to complete her hat-trick

The Silks defence, midfield and attack all played well in taking the points in this well-fought local derby.

Macclesfield's star players were Janet Bebbington and Sue Lea.
