Riders gear up for race

MACCLESFIELD Wheelers 21st annual Frontier Super Cross promises to be a real Christmas cracker.

Most of the top riders in the country will gather for the event on Tuesday, December 27 thanks to a new format which will see winning points counting towards the inaugural Scott Cycles League.

The field will include four-times winner Nick Craig (Scott Cycles) and young Liam Killeen (Specialised), who will be hoping to make it three times out of three after triumphing in the last two races.

Other riders will be National Trophy leader Jody Crawforth, Rob Jebb (Ron Hill-Wheelbase), and top under-23s' Steven Roach and Ian Bibby (SiS-Trek).

The race, which will attract a field of up to 100 riders in the main event, will be started by Mayor of Macclesfield, Councillor Norman Edwards in South Park at 1.15pm.

There are prizes for the seniors, women, juniors and under-23s. There are separate races for the u12s (12 noon start) and Nimrod-sponsored u16s (11.15am start). Entries are taken on the day at the tennis club on Ryles Park Road.

The super cross also boasts a new sponsor this season. Mark Morris, and his Frontier Vehicle Contract Hire company on Old Mill Lane Macclesfield, have agreed to take on the role. Mark's father, Bill, used to run winter training courses at the old Fermain club.
