Macc lads pull together

27/ 7/2005

TUG-OF-WAR trio Andy Street, Dave Heapy and Glyn Jones proved real crowd-pullers in the World Games in Germany.

Macclesfield's Street and Heapy, and Jones, of Lyme Green, were selected to represent Great Britain at the Games, which is a major competition for non-Olympics Sports supported by the International Olympic Committee.

And a 35,000 sell-out crowd turned out to watch the GB stars compete last Saturday. But despite pulling well, the men's 680 kilos failed to make the semi-finals. The Netherlands defeated Sweden in the final to be crowned champions.

The threesome will be back in action in September when Congleton, with whom the lads compete for at home, will be representing England at 720 kilos at the European Championships in Italy.

Local side Bosley will also represent their country at 680 kilos.
