Preview: Macclesfield v Fylde

MACCLESFIELD will be looking to avenge an opening day defeat as well as continuing their promotion charge when they entertain Flyde on Saturday.

The visitors - who beat the Blues 20-5 on September 4 - come to Priory Park on the back of two victories, winning 27-25 at Kendal last Saturday and beating Cleckheaton 58-22 the previous week.

It marks an upturn in fortunes for Fylde, who had suffered a run of three consecutive defeats to Tynedale (18-24) Bradford (12-23) and Bedford (18-30).

Macc were a little unfortunate back in September to have critical decisions go against them and, despite the pack having the upper hand, lost out to a team who are currently fourth in the table.

However, that should be turned round by a side that has won six of its last seven games - the seventh being a 18-18 draw at Darlington - to maintain their play-off challenge.

Steve Campbell and Tony Howcroft, who both missed the trip to Tynedale with niggling injuries, should be fit again to join the squad against Fylde.

Moreover, with last Saturday's man-of-the-match, George Browning, now back to his crunching-tackling best, there should be scope to run the ball on what hopefully will be a dry and firm surface.
