MACCLESFIELD Men's First Team finally put their troubles behind them with a vital victory against fellow strugglers Nelson and Rossendale.

Mike Heathcote scored the vital goal - seizing on a rebound just after the break to give his side the lead.

Despite their late arrival, Nelson had several chances to score early on, and would have done so had it not been for good work from keeper Brian Boardman and man of the match Adrian Kirk.

Although the second half got scrappy, Macc reacted better to the change and Heathcote scored the all-important goal after Jim Leach had hit the post.

Macc kept their discipline late on to record a deserved win which will stand them in good stead going into the final two games before Christmas.

They travel to Lytham St Annes on Saturday.
