Run brings Rule reward

MACCLESFIELD RUFC head coach Steve Rule has won the coach of the month award for October after guiding his side to a six-game unbeaten streak.

The super run of results, which ended with defeat against promotion favourites Halifax last weekend, has propelled Macc into second place in Division Three North, but Rule has played down talk of promotion.

"Our objective is exactly the same as it was at the start of the season, and that's to improve on last year."

"The moment we start believing our own press, we'll be in trouble, so for now we want four more wins and we'll be safe."

The Priory Park men have beaten established rugby names such as Rugby, Dudley Kingswinford and Darlington over the last few weeks.

Rule said: "We have become a bit more clever and our defence has improved massively. We're not doing anything differently, it's just that we are a year older and wiser and that's starting to show itself in our game."

Rule was also keen to acknowledge the hard work put in by his players, staff and assistant Dave Muckalt.

"It's a team award, and Dave Muckalt deserves it just as much as me. He has been a major influence on the side this year," he said.
