DARREN Whittaker and Alan Pengelly posted a fine 44 points to take the Glenmuir Cup back to Shrigley Hall for the first time in the club's history.
The competition, played at Marple, attracted a full field for the Alliance amateurs in the normal betterball Stableford format.
Defending champions Tony Gregory and Steve Callaghan of Heaton Moor were left to rue a missed short putt on the final green as they finished one point behind the winners.
The other prizes, presented by Neil Humphries of Glenmuir, went to: Mike Healey and Graham Bailey (Mellor and Townscliffe) 42; Ged Gaffey and Walter Gregory (Bolton Old Links) 41; Dave Allcock and Bob Spence (Mellor and Townscliffe) 41 and Graham Boddy and Brian Lear (Cavendish) 41.
- Several local pros, including Shrigley Hall's Tony Stevens and Tim Maxwell from Mottram Hall are in the field at Sale for the annual playing of the Hancock Trophy for Mixed Foursomes.
