LOCAL golf enthusiasts can see some of the region's best players in action this week at Mottram Hall as they contest the MEN Manchester Open.
Entry is free and there is full action beginning on Wednesday, September 22 with the final round for the last 70 who make the cut on Friday.
Among a host of our local stars in action is holder Jon Cheetham from Mobberley who won in thrilling style last year.
Joining him on the tee will be Tony Stevens and James Murphy (Shrigley Hall), Tony Taylor (Macclesfield), John Watson (Adlington), Anthony Sproston (High Legh Park), Gavin Beddow, Michael Harrington (Tytherington), Arron Buckley, Tim Rastall, Kevin Kean, Tim Keighley, Tim Maxwell (Mottram Hall), Simon Forrest and David Horsey (Styal),
David Shacklady has emerged as one of the hot favourites for the M.E.N. Manchester Open after a stunning run over the last few weeks, which included six victories in seven outings.
And he revealed the secret of his success when he claimed: "It's all in the mind.
"A couple of years ago I booked a few sessions with a sports psychologist and made note of everything he told me and it has stayed in my memory bank.
"Every now and then I look up something but usually I know how to get out of certain situations. There is no question it has helped me."
"Every time I win I ask myself how many more I can do it but I hope I can carry my form through to Mottram Hall for the M.E.N Open."
- SHRIGLEY Hall's ladies played their club championship with Sheila Cassidy securing a notable double - winning the gross (86+83 - 169) and nett total of 151. Florence Trinder was runner-up.
In the ladies Shrigley Bowl final, Trinder was again the bridesmaid with her 34-pointer leaving her three points adrift of winner Jo Williams with Mary Berry in third slot on 33.
- TYTHERINGTON'S Mark Aguorlay and Mike Pallett enjoyed the latest Cheshire members meeting at Heswall.
They posted an impressive 45 points to finish as runners-up to David Graham and Roger Emery of Astbury 47 in a full field of 184 from 51 clubs.
