Getting fans in for a very merry Christ-Moss!

MACCLESFIELD Town are looking to spread a bit of Christmas cheer around the Moss Rose this year by organising the borough's biggest-ever christmas carol concert.

Club chairman Rob Bickerton has announced plans for an open air concert, which he hopes will attract a full house of festive revellers - led by a 500-strong choir of local schoolchildren.

He told Express Sport: "It should be a fantastic afternoon, we're hoping it will be the largest choir service ever held in the borough."

"What we are looking for at this stage is people who are willing to help organise, publicise or sponsor the event."

"Everyone who registers an interest will be invited to a meeting in September and we will go from there."

The club are hoping they won't need any divine inspiration in order to reach the play-offs this season, but the hour-long service is set to be presided by Macc's chaplains Rev Jeremy Tear and Rev Dean Shaw and is being organised to bring the community spirit back to the club.

"The football club in the past was owned by the community, but recently it has been controlled by a smaller number of people," said chairman Bickerton.

"The idea of events such as this is to give something back. It's free to enter and all the funding will come via sponsorship."

"This will be the first of many such events which we hope will provide a link to the local community."

The event has already received the backing of several local businesses and is expected to be broadcast live on local radio.
