THE youngsters of Macclesfield did the town proud once again as they swept the board at the Cheshire Partnership Youth Games.

Girls and boys from schools all over Macclesfield competed in 12 different sports ranging from aquathlon to boccia - and our local lads and lasses came back with 12 first or second-placed finishes.

Over 1,200 young people competed in this year's games, which was the sixth time the event has been run. Although the event was plagued with rain and driving wind, the sporting champions of tomorrow produced some outstanding performances.

Sports from each end of the spectrum were showcased, with special emphasis put on inclusive events such as disability football, athletics and boccia.

Macclesfield's boys took first place in the aquathlon, rugby, and hockey, while the girls scooped gold in the basketball and hockey. Macc's swimmers also did well - finishing first in the age 10 group and second in the age 9. group.

Medals were also given for fair play, with Crewe and Nantwich given the overall team sportsmanship award.
