Derek rewarded for services to soccer

VETERAN footballer Derek Druce has been awarded the Albert Bailey Sports Personality of the Year by the Macclesfield DFA.
Derek, aged 48, has been playing football in the borough for over 30 years, and was finally rewarded for his efforts by the town's sports chiefs this week.
Currently player-manager at Bollington Athletic in the Mid-Cheshire League, Derek has remained loyal to the town throughout his career - which has seen him line up for such teams as Crown Villa, Pack Horse and Bollington.
He is best known as an attacking midfielder, and is no stranger to the referee's notebook, joked Macc DFA's Dave Mansfield.
He said: "Derek has been an incredible servant to the local game, but not always been an angel."
"He has had opportunities to play outside the town at a higher level, but has always remained loyal."
"He is a thoroughly deserved recipient of this award."
He was presented with the trophy by Macc DFA chairman George Renard.
Last year's winner was Angus Holmes, a secretary of Bollington United for the last 20 years.
