Toby’s crash landing!

WITH a nickname such as 'Captain Crash' it was hardly surprising that Toby Ayre's preparation for the recent Scottish Six Day International Trial was cursed with bad luck!
The 29-year-old Sutton-based rider is well known on the trial circuit for enduring the odd bump and bruise - but when Toby contracted chicken pox just two weeks before the biggest event of the year, he could be forgiven for cursing his fortune.
"I could hardly believe it," Toby told Express Sport. "It meant I couldn't train in the weeks leading up to the event."
"Sometimes you spend up to eight hours on the bike riding over bogs and marshland and you can't sit down. You end up absolutely shattered."
Despite absence of proper training and the small inconvenience of a broken toe and strained back muscle sustained on the course, Toby scooped the award for the best under 200cc machine for Macclesfield Trial Club and successfully completed the arduous six-day event, which was attended by over 280 riders from all over the world.
"It was a pleasing result considering the build up I had," said Toby, who added that he didn't know whether he would be competing in next year's event.
He said: "I'm getting married in April next year, but whether or not I can incorporate it as part of the honeymoon I don't know. It might be pushing my luck."
