Iraqi side at Moss

26/ 5/2004

MOSS ROSE will hold its first ever international match tomorrow night when the Iraqi national side take on an England National Game XI.

The Iraqi side is using the game as part of its Goodwill Tour, ahead of the Asian Cup and World Cup Qualifiers, which start later this year. They warmed up for their Moss Rose clash with a 2-0 defeat in front of 1,600 fans at The Hawthorns last weekend, and Macc chief executive Colin Garlick said he wants to make sure the atmosphere is even better. He told us: "There has been a great response from local schools and the Cheshire FA have distributed a lot of tickets to clubs in our area. We hope to make sure there is a great atmosphere on the night."

The England National Game side is coached by former Stevenage player Paul Fairclough, and features the top semi-professional players in the country including Steve Guinan (Cheltenham Town) and Jake Sedgemore (Shrewsbury).

The game kicks-off at 7.30pm and entrance is free to season ticket holders. Regular tickets are £5 adults and £2 children.

  • Stewards must be at the ground by 6pm.
