PARKSIDE skipper Jason Knight led his side to a 46-run victory against in-form Ashton-on Mersey with a superb innings of 67.

The home side lost the toss and were asked to bat on a good track. Matt Towns (33) and, the aging, Eddie McLoughlin (6) started like a train racing to 25 before McLoughlin was out plumb lbw off Powell (1-54). Richard Nash offered an easy chance to cover to give Roscoe (4-60) his first wicket before Roberts (18) and Aslam (4) followed, leaving Parkside wobbling at 79/5.

This brought together the brothers Knight, with Jason (61) and Jonathan (27) smashing a partnership worth 84 to get Parkside out of the hole they were finding themselves in. Numerous big hits sent spectators ducking for cover all over the surrounding areas. The partnership ended when Jason Knight was caught for a brutish 61. Jon played on with seven balls left with the score at 167/7. Needing three for maximum batting points, Mike Caulfield (9no) hit one final six to close the innings on 176/7.

Parkside's bowlers knew they needed to be on top form to win the game. Eddie Roberts (2-18) made a fast start, but youngsters Matt Betteridge (4-33) and Si Patterson (3-26) made sure the full compliment of 25 points went to Parkside.

'The Sword' hope to continue their good form this Saturday with a visit to local rivals Over Peover, the game starting at 2pm.
