Munster: “I’ve no regrets”

KARL Munroe said he has "no regrets" over a contract dispute earlier this year which cut short his Macclesfield Town career.

The defender was one of only a handful of players to make 30 appearances for the Silkmen this season, but fell out of favour with then boss John Askey in February after turning down a two-year extension to his contract at reduced terms.

At the time, he accused the club of "lacking ambition" after they released fellow defender Danny Adams to Stockport County, and Munroe was immediately exiled to the reserves.

He returned to the side, under Brian Horton, for the last few games of the season as cover for George Abbey - but along with Abbey and club skipper Chris Priest, the former Swansea City defender was not included in the new manager's retained list, issued at the end of last week.

Munroe told Express Sport: "I haven't got any regrets. I loved my time at Macc, I enjoyed working with the lads and the fans were brilliant all the time I was there."

"I suppose the writing was on the wall for me when they didn't come back with an improved offer, so I knew I would probably be looking for another club."

"Considering I played most of the game this season at centre-half, which I think is my best position, it's a shame Brian didn't see me play there."

"It's a fact of life that some managers want to keep you at a club and some don't. You can't really do anything about it.

"I have got one or two irons in the fire and I'm sure I can get myself fixed up at a club playing at a similar level."
