MACCLESFIELD town hotshot Matthew Tipton is poised to turn his back on a lucrative offers from three second division clubs to sign a new deal at Moss Rose.
The former Welsh under-21 international, and current Macc player of the year, held talks with Silkmen chairman Rob Bickerton and boss Brian Horton last week and admitted to Express Sport that he is close to signing a deal.
He told us: "They offered me a good deal and if I'm honest, I'm definitely leaning towards Macclesfield Town at the moment."
"I sat down and talked with them last week and they came back with an offer on Thursday. The manager is on holiday at the moment so I can't sign anything, but when he comes back, I will definitely go in and sort it out."
Half-a-dozen clubs were rumoured to have courted Tipton since his contract expired, but the striker hinted at an extended stay when collecting his player of the year award last week.
Macc's neighbours Stockport County were one of the sides said to be preparing to take the former Oldham Athletic man, but board's pledge to build their strongest ever squad seems to have swayed the striker's decision.
He said: "The club want to go places, and so do I. I'm an ambitious person, but if I can get promotion with Macclesfield, then that's all the better."
Tipton is hoping to seal his future before getting married in three weeks time. He will also have to negotiate a stag holiday in Majorca with over 30 other revellers before starting pre-season training with Macc!
There was one piece of bad news for Tipton this week however, with the report that the FA's dubious goals panel have ruled out what would have been his 20th goal of the season. The disputed strike came in the 2-1 victory over Oxford United, and will instead be awarded as an own goal against Us' striker Jefferson Louis.
Tipton said: "I'm disappointed with their decision, but I know it was my goal, it's just a shame they don't agree with me."
