NOT to be out-done by the Macclesfield second team's success in Division One of the North West Intermediate League the third team continued their quest in the third division, with an emphatic win over Sedgley Park.

The seconds all-but clinched the championship last week with victory over the Vale of Lune, but the thirds have been enjoying a tremendous season of their own - capped off with a wonderful victory against Sedgley.

In doing so, Martin Rosser and Cameron Thompson's side passed the 1,000-points for the season and ran in eight tries to one with some excellent running rugby.

A solid foundation was laid by the forwards who dominated all aspects of play, with captain Rosser getting his fair share of strikes in the tight and the line outs being won at will from Croker, Underhill and Jones.

"Fossy" Foster at scrum half marshalled his troops with aplomb and "Boggsy" Roberts displayed a mature approach in getting his experienced back line moving, and kicked six excellent conversions. Outside him the mercurial Davies, Oliver, Marshall and Phillips were always going to outclass their opponents.

Tries came at regular intervals in the first half and Macc rattled up 33 points before the break. Changes were then made to utilise all the subs, including some even more mature players, such as the likes of Thompson and Leigh.

More points were added before Park, got a well deserved try.
