MACC Town fans could have got a glimpse of the Silkmen stars of the future as they negotiated their way round the Moss Rose pitch at the interval last weekend.

The Macclesfield youth team, who seven days earlier scooped the Cheshire Youth Cup for only the third time in their history, paraded the cup round the ground at half time to a warm reception from the home and visiting supporters.

The youngsters won by a single Danny Digman goal against Stalybridge DFA in a tense game played at the Moss Rose in front of a large number of supporters.

The win was made all the more special because Macc have the smallest catchment area in Cheshire - and went into the game as the underdogs.

Many of the youngsters will now look to emulate current Silkmen star Danny Whitaker and possibly break into the Macclesfield Town first team over the coming years.

"We'd like to thank Express Sport for pushing the game so well, and all the parents and supporters for coming and cheering us on," said team manager Mike Cunningham. "Their support was really appreciated. I'd also like to thank Macc Town and their directors for the use of their excellent pitch for the game. The lads really deserved their win and hopefully a few of them can go on from here and make a good living out of the game."
