Macc finally draw a blank

MACC Town kept their first clean sheet since December after an uninspiring contest at the Moss Rose.

It was a hard-earned point for Macc against promotion-chasing Lincoln, and keeper Steve Wilson was called upon to make several superb saves.

John Askey made two changes from the side which faced Northampton last Saturday - with George Abbey and Chris Priest replacing Michael Carr and Karl Munroe.

The Silkmen almost got off to the worst possible start when Red Imps frontman Simon Yeo launched a header towards goal after just two minutes only for Steve Wilson to come to Macc's rescue with a superb reaction save.

The need for points, however, is desperate and Macc tried hard to get back into the game.

Just before half time, Steve Payne ghosted in but headed just wide. Paul Harsley went close with a long-range shot and Matt Tipton tested Lincoln keeper Alan Marriott from around 10 yards.

The visitors almost went into the lead on the stroke of half time, but Wilson came to the rescue again superbly tipping a Kevin Ellison free-kick on to the cross bar. Two minutes into the second half, Harsley was taken off with a nasty facial injury after a clash with Yeo.

The Lincoln man then went close with a snap volley sent straight at Wilson before Steve Payne sent a header just wide for the Silkmen.

Martin Carruthers went close on 70 minutes with a close-range shot which went inches wide of Marriott's post.

Wilson made another superb stop from Yeo's header before Tipton volleyed wide Macc's best chance of the second half.
