Club takes action over slur

MODERATORS of the Macc Town official website were forced to shut down their official supporters' chat room following a string of racist and abusive messages.

Silkchat, the fans-only site used to discuss the Silkmen was closed last Friday after several messages containing racist remarks and foul language were posted on the public board.

The people responsible are not thought to be connected with Macclesfield Town in any way, but club chief executive Colin Garlick said the Silkmen would not tolerate any behaviour of this kind.

He said: "We will not tolerate any offensive or abusive language.

"The reason we closed the board was because someone was abusing their privilege to use it.

"It's a chat board to talk about football and to share ideas and views about the club and that's what normally takes place. But not in this case, by this person."

The site is run by FLPTV, who closed the board late on Friday night after being alerted to the offensive messages by the club.

It was reopened on Monday morning on the proviso that no further abusive messages are posted.

Users of Silkchat currently need to register a working email address in order to use the site - but all information is currently kept by FLPTV.
