Goodfellow back to boost Macc

28/11/2002

RU: Iain Taylor will wish to return quickly to winning ways at home to Aspatria after last Saturday's one point loss to the impressive Darlington side.

And it's clear Aspatria must be sent packing back to Cumbria with no celebrations after their third visit to Priory Park in the last two seasons.

Last year they were relegated from National League Three North and in our opening encounter up in Aspatria they won a high scoring game by 45-29.

Two games were played at Macclesfield - the first being in the Intermediate Cup when Macc won by 20-5.

In the league encounter back in March we won by 48-22 after some flowing rugby from both sides.

To date Aspatria are in 7th spot having Played 9 Won 3 Drawn 1 and Lost 5 - all those defeats, except one, coming 'on the road'.

They have beaten Huddersfield (28-25) Sandal (63-3) West Park St Helens (37-30) drawn against Birkenhead park (23-23) and lost to Cleckheaton (50-25) Morley (19-13) West Hartlepool (20-18) Darlington (24-6) and last Saturday Chester (35-27) and from those results it is clear that they can score points freely if they cannot defend them at the other end.

Macclesfield will be without George Browning and Ross Harper after serious injuries last Saturday but should have Andy Rice and Scott Goodfellow back in contention.

And after the rather poor turn out last Saturday let us see the rugby loving public of Macclesfield coming to support their side - as I keep saying at four quid and with our facilities it is a bargain.

The RFU clash kicks off at 3pm on November 30.
