Vauxhall Chevette up QPR

SOCCER: Macclesfield will face Vauxhall Motors in the second round of the FA Cup.

The UniBond Premier League side knocked out Queens Park Rangers 4-3 on penalties in Tuesday's first-round replay at Loftus Road, in front of interested spectator David Moss.

The Second Division side took an 18th-minute lead after Andy Thomson scored from ex-Wigan Athletic left back Gino Padula's pass, but the Motormen levelled within four minutes through Phil Brazier.

No further goals followed until the penalty shoot-out. QPR made a terrible start when Paul Furlong's first kick was saved by keeper Andy Ralphe.

The Ellesmere Port club converted all their penalties before Rangers striker Karl Connolly struck the decisive kick wide.

Macc will host Vauxhall Motors at Moss Rose on December 7. The club will pocket a £100,000 windfall after Sky elected to televise the match, which now has a 5.35pm kick-off.

Meanwhile, Macclesfield are still in competition with QPR.

Silkmen boss David Moss is still hopeful he can bring former Stockport striker Brett Angell to Moss Rose.

Angell spent time training with Macc last week but accepted a six week offer from Second Division QPR. But Moss says his moves for Angell may not be dead and buried.

"I am hopeful we can still bring Brett to Macc in the New Year. We had agreed terms but then QPR came in for him and I don't blame him for going.

"But we'll be watching things closely. We could resurrect things. I know him well from Stockport and he's the sort of player who will do well for us."
