Kyle Lightbourne netted the 100th league goal of his career to set Macclesfield up for a victory over Oxford last night.

Macc had the benefit of the referee's decisions in an entertaining home victory.

After an uneventful first 25 minutes, Danny Adams moved in from the left flank before unleashing a fierce right foot shot that sailed inches wide.

Macc's best move of the first half came on 37 minutes, when Danny Whitaker set up Lightbourne, who thumped a low left-foot shot into the advertising hoardings.

Oxford then came to life, with beanpole forward Dave Savage ghosting into the box before forcing a full-length save from Steve Wilson.

The keeper was tested three minutes later by a long-range header from veteran David Oldfield, but was again up to the task.

Macc should have scored on the stroke of half-time when Matt Tipton saw a shot from two yards rebound off a defender, before scooping his second attempt wide.

A hotly-disputed goal gave Macclesfield the lead on 65 minutes when a thumping left-foot drive from Lightbourne took the slightest deflection off Tipton, with the Oxford defence appealing for offside as the ball looped over Andy Woodman.

The visitors might have equalised two minutes later when a Matthew Bound free kick slid under the wall to be blocked by Dave Ridler on the line. Oxford then had a headed goal from Adie Viveash disallowed for offside after 83 minutes.

Macc looked to have made the game safe on 88 minutes when Whitaker looped in his seventh of the season.

But they had a nervous last two minutes when Jefferson Louis grabbed a late consolation.
